FLASH NOTES: No letdown was on display for the Cold Springs Lady Eagles as they begin the final week of the regular season with a very busy schedule of four games in a span of five days.
Having to make up this 2A, Area 13 game that was postponed January 16 due to inclement weather, the Lady Eagles took advantage from the beginning. Cold Springs had 10 offensive rebounds four minutes in that allowed them numerous possessions as they led 20-0 with 1:09 to go in the quarter when Elizabeth Hill had her fourth field goal in the stanza.
St. Bernard broke the zeros off its side of the scoreboard with 0:58 to play when Clair Sanders scored from the top.
Coach Tammy West sat her starters during the second period as reserves Zoe Strawbridge, Emma Chambers, Shay Sellers, Prisca McAnnally and Kylon Hamby kept St. Bernard scoreless in the quarter and had four of the five to earn points in a 9-0 second period run.
West had a rare moment of scoring two treys as time ran out in the first quarter and during the third. The one she netted to end the first, bounced high off the rim and dropped through to make it 25-2.
The three that completed the third period gave the homestanding Lady Eagles a 52-5 advantage.
All starters were on the sidelines for the final period, including injured Lady Eagle Neely Ellison who is recovering from knee surgery she had last Friday in Birmingham. Ellison tore ligaments in her knee on January 18 in a 47-44 win at Good Hope.
St. Bernard was not at full strength as one of its top performers, guard Ashley Duke, was home with stomach flu. Emma Tafazoli was unable to connect on the Jesse George floor with the Lady Saints getting three field goals for the entire 32 minutes.
Now 6-0 in the area standings, the Lady Eagles will determine which days they will host the 2A, Area 13 tournament next week.
That will take place Tuesday in a meeting with Falkville, Winston County and St. Bernard.
Up next for Cold Springs: At West Point Tuesday
