FLASH NOTES: Good Hope wrapped up the first week of October by taking an hour to turn back Vinemont Thursday evening.
The Lady Raiders finished the week at 4-1, completing a three-game defeat of county opponents Cold Springs, West Point and Vinemont.
Good Hope opened the match with a challenge early, then getting control of the game midway. An 11-9 advantage for the Lady Raiders quickly became 19-9 on seven service points by Chrissi Smith.
Kate Kent converted six kills and had two blocks in the first game. The senior middle hitter also scored on a jump serve that made it 24-14. Vinemont broke service then Good Hope was done for the first set on a kill by Jesse Kent from an assist by setter Abby Knight.
Vinemont was determined to give Good Hope a challenge and did so in the second set. The Lady Eagles went up by a margin of 15-7 when a kill from Kate Kent, assisted by Knight, began to turn the momentum to the side of the Lady Raiders.
Good Hope patiently narrowed the margin and stopped Vinemont when a Kent kill got the score even at 24-24. Knight finished with consecutive service points, thanks to a volley by Kent and a block from Kent to overcome the deficit and move to 2-0 for the match.
Smith and Knight were dominant at the service line in the third game. They helped Good Hope go up 10-2 with Kent getting three straight kills to extend the lead to 13-3.
Vinemont never recovered from the Lady Raiders' fast start as Skylar Tucker stepped into the spotlight role with a kill then two service points. Jesse Kent added a kill to her statistics with Sadie Fendley serving well in scoring from the line five consecutive points.
A serve into the net for Vinemont ended the contest at 6:36 p.m.
