FLASH NOTES: A concern if volleyball would be played at Lane Horton Gym Tuesday did come into possibility, due to power failure in the Hanceville city limits before 3:00 p.m.
A conversation between Hanceville coach Amy Chambers and Good Hope coach Natasha Holcombe was discussed as everyone patiently waited for power to be restored by the Cullman Electric Cooperative.
At 3:46 p.m., the power was back on inside the gym and across the campus as the games went on as scheduled.
Priceville and Hanceville took to the floor, starting at 4:10 p.m. with Priceville well in command of the assignment.
Overcoming a 4-0 deficit in the second set, Priceville had strong serving by Rebecca Rotermund, who scored 11 straight before Hanceville broke her serve. Skylar Benson, moments later, would step in and display her serving skills, with three consecutive points and a 16-7 lead for Priceville.
Meredith Clecker finished off Hanceville by scoring the last seven points on serve as Priceville took less than a half hour to sweep Hanceville and prepare to face Good Hope for the second time on the season.
Priceville had swept Good Hope 2-0 the week before on campus. Now playing the Lady Raiders at a neutral site and Good Hope trying to stop a 3-game losing streak from the weekend in the Hayden invitational.
Things went well for Priceville in the opening set as Benson began to be an impact player with consecutive volleys and a 15-11 lead for the Lady Bulldogs.
Good Hope started a rally and cut the score to 18-17 on a kill by Abi Orton, off a serve from teammate Alee Jackson.
Then it was Benson to step back into the spotlight, converting a kill then a block that pushed the Priceville lead to 21-17. Good Hope was able to get a service break and a serve by Chrissi Smith pulled the Lady Raiders to 24-20.
But Priceville ended the momentum as Benson tallied a block at the net to close out the first set 25-20. But the advantage Catrina Mason's Lady Bulldogs gained at the end of the first set, could not be held, due to a determined group of Lady Raiders, inspired by coach Holcombe.
Priceville moved out to an 11-6 edge when Good Hope had a comeback to be performed, led by Skylar Tucker. Tucker would get five straight service points, keyed by kills from Jackson and Jesse Kent, tieing the game at 11-11.
After Priceville scored on a Good Hope net error, the Lady Raiders used two kills and a pair of service points by Sidnie English that pushed them in front 14-12.
Leading 18-17, the Lady Raiders gained a point on a volley from Smith and moments later, took advantage of a four hits violation by Priceville to make it 23-21.
Priceville again fought back as a kill by Benson pulled the score to 24-23. The Lady Raiders broke service and forced a tiebreaker when Orton smashed the ball over for a kill and a 25-23 victory.
In game three, the Lady Raiders went ahead to stay at 4-3 when Kent converted a kill and the margin grew to 10-5 on service points by Smith and back to back kills from Orton.
Priceville would draw the deficit to 10-8, seeing Good Hope fight off the Lady Bulldogs when Orton tallied a kill and four consecutive service points from Riley Smith sent the Lady Raiders to celebrating a hard fought triumph against a strong squad from Morgan County.
Good Hope grabbed the advantage early in the first set with Hanceville. A volley from Raygen Turner had Hanceville down 2-1.
Then Jackson would go to the service line and reel off 19 consecutive points, a career best for her with the lead soaring to 21-1. Her service was broken with a serve going out of bounds.
But the damage was done and Hanceville could never recover. The first set took nine minutes to be played.
Hanceville managed to be competitive in the second set, taking advantage of Good Hope errors. The Lady Bulldogs fell behind 5-1, but closed to 8-5, seeing the momentum go down when they were called for a foot fault on a serve.
Tucker netted four straight service points and the Lady Raiders went ahead 13-5. Serves by Jackson and Chrissi Smith gave them an 18-7 lead. Hanceville got some points on serves by Gordana Oden, Noelia Palma and Ally Bice, trimming the deficit to 21-12.
A volley from Smith sent the momentum back to Good Hope's side as consecutive service points from English ended the match at 6:35 p.m.
