FLASH NOTES: Taking care of business is what Holly Pond did Friday night on the road, punching their ticket to the 3A state playoffs for the second consecutive season under Mike Bates.
Running the football, which has become the main ingredient to their success offensively, the Broncos netted 286 yards with nine different backs getting to run it. Kyler Chaney was five of six passing in the first half for 66 yards with some key throws to Tyler Boatright and Alex Corneligo that helped the Broncos moved toward the Vinemont end zone.
Holly Pond had four touchdowns on five first half possessions with 228 total yards by the break and 15 first downs.
An interception in the third quarter by Issac Ludwig set the Broncos up for a 51-yard drive for their only score of the final half.
Holmes finished with 102 yards rushing, Chaney gained 50 yards, Rowell accounted for 37 with Stancil having 22 yards to the second half total plus a 23-yard run by Luis Garcia in the fourth quarter,
The Broncos dominated with 21 first downs.
Vinemont got a touchdown in the final quarter on a 72-yard series with Cornelius gaining 42 yards in the drive and scoring from the five.
Both teams fumbled once in the final period with Vinemont's miscue recovered by Sean Shaddrix at the Holly Pond 37 as they were able to get a couple of first downs to run out the final 2:26 and head back home with a second straight winning season (six victories) after going 1-29 for Bates between 2013 to 2015.
The Broncos are 12-7 in the regular season for the past two years, having as many victories in that span, along with Cullman and West Point.
