FLASH NOTES: It lived up to the hype that was expected in a regional final rematch. Hoover won it in 2017 in overtime on a shot at the buzzer.
No. 1 Hoover had 3rd ranked Sparkman on the ropes, leading 19-10 after the first period. But Sparkman started to wake up, take advantage of situations and close the deficit to 26-21 by halftime.
Things got intense as the margin was much closer. Sparkman narrowed it to 38-37 when the third closed out.
This set up a very dramatic fourth period between two teams that came in with combined wins of 59 over seven losses.
Hoover took a 45-39 lead in the fourth on back back treys by Maddox.
The rest of the game belonged to Sparkman with the Lady Senators getting free throws in the final seconds by MVP Derienne Black to push the lead to 55-51.
Hoover scored on a three as time expired to make it a final margin. Black was very grateful of getting the two points from the line that allowed Sparkman to complete a strong comeback in the final stanza.
Sparkman coach Patrick Delay pointed out his team made great adjustments in the second half. The Lady Senators had only two turnovers after giving up 14 through the first 16:00.
The Lady Senators forced Hoover into 20 turnovers and held the Lady Bucs to 17 of 57 total field goals and just three of 16 in three-point shots.
