FAIRVIEW - St. Bernard Prep School had a good outing Saturday morning in the 9th annual Fairview Cross Country Invitational.
Led by senior Leahrose Mami, the Lady Saints controlled the small schools division (1A-4A) with 49 points, finishing respectably ahead of Sardis who had 66, Pisgah in third place with 72, J.B. Pennington fourth with 96 and Holly Pond a fifth place finish with 132 points.
A total of 150 runners took part in the event under sunny skies, high humidity with the temperature in the upper 70s at race time.
Mami had the winning time of 21:15 for St. Bernard with her teammate Lizabeth Medina sixth at 23:15, Eva Barck was 11th at 23:42, Gracie Loyd 22nd at 25:01 and Anna Beth Guthrey 25th at 25:10.
Mami edged out Brea Bryan of Falkville by 1:28. Bryan was second with a time of 22:43, Kelleigh Joiner of Pisgah took third at 22:53, Sarah Burger of Sardis fourth at 23:10, five seconds in front of Medina from St. Bernard.
The talented runner was second earlier in the week in the Randolph Invitational in Huntsville with a time of 1940. Mami was at Scottsboro seven days ago, coming in fourth overall in the Scottsboro Invitational.
Mami and St. Bernard will look for more success next week when they go to Cold Springs for the annual Kudzu Hills Invitational.
