FLASH NOTES: Peterson had the fame hat trick (3 goals) in the first half that lifted the Saints to the lead.
St. Bernard came out aggressive with five shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes, but nothing to show for on the scoreboard.
Sylvania turned away a series of good opportunities by the Saints including a penalty kick attempt by John Christian Rose.
Then Peterson found a way to get the ball into the next and did it three times in a span of eight minutes that was enough for the Saints to clinch a berth into the upcoming state playoffs.
Peterson completed the superb performance with his fourth goal, coming 11:00 into the second half that upped the spread to 4-0.
Peterson was taken out with 9:15 remaining in the match as he had a slight limp in his foot from the contact he took throughout the contest.
The Saints didn't succeed with only Peterson. Goalie Anthony Diaz fought off five shots on goal by the visitors from DeKalb County, with others contributing on the defensive side such as Rose, Alec Von Thuelen, Carson Holmes, Michael Bain Clemmons.
Sylvania managed just two shots against Diaz in the first 40:00 and three during the second half.
St. Bernard has been on a roll since a 3-0 win at Sylvania March 13. The Saints have won seven of their last eight, with a 2-2 tie to J.B. Pennington April 3 the drawback in this victory span.
The Saints eliminated Sylvania from the playoff picture as the Area 7 title will be up for grabs between St. Bernard and Tanner.
The Saints visit the Rattlers Thursday, then welcome the school from Limestone County to the St. Bernard campus next Tuesday with the area title likely hanging in the balance.
