HANCEVILLE - A series of circumstances caused several changes to today's Bojangle's High School Shootout at Wallace State's Tom Drake Coliseum.
Nine games were originally scheduled for Martin Luther King Day. But Wallace State coach John Meeks, the coordinator of the event, told Sportspage Monday morning that changes had to be made.
Austin's Lady Black Bears had to pull out, due to having an area game at Hartselle postponed from Friday to Monday night. Austin and Hartselle are fighting it out for first place in 6A, Area 15.
Mae Jemison's Lady Jaguars contacted Meeks and informed him half of the squad is battling flu-like symptoms, plus the team has three games in area play for this week.
Jackson-Olin's teams opted out during the weekend, Meeks said. Meeks tried to find a replacement for James Clemens, who was to meet Jackson Olin's teams, but was unable to do so and James Clemens will not be attending.
Meeks was able to get in touch with Branch Whitlock at Fairview, who had an open date available. The Aggies will play Southside-Gadsden in the 6:00 p.m. slot, taking the vacancy of the James Clemens vs. Jackson-Olin varsity game.
