AHSAA Baseball Report from Thursday 04/05:
One week of area play remains in the 2018 Alabama High School baseball regular season.
This is how teams from the Sportspage coverage stand going into next week in the quest of trying to earn a berth to the playoffs in their respective classification.
6A, Area 14:
Cullman 6-0, Albertville 3-3, Fort Payne 1-3, Brewer 0-4
FLASH NOTES: Cullman is the regular season area champ after sweeping Albertville 7-4, 8-1 Thursday on the road. The Bearcats will finish the area schedule at Brewer Tuesday (4:30) and host the Patriots for a twinbill April 12 at 4:30.
5A, Area 12:
West Point 5-1, Hayden 4-2, Fairview 2-4, Curry 2-4.
FLASH NOTES: West Point took a pair at Curry Thursday 6-3, 15-0 with a series left against Fairview next week. Fairview lost two on the home diamond Thursday to Hayden 4-0 and 12-6, dropping the Aggies to third place.
Game 1 of the series will be at Fairview Tuesday at 6:30. The series shifts to West Point on April 12 for a doubleheader at 4:30. Hayden and Curry play a single game Tuesday then a twinbill on April 12.
4A, Area 10:
Cordova 4-2, Good Hope 1-2, Dora 1-2.
FLASH NOTES: Cordova won the opener with a rally in the 7th to edge Good Hope 9-8. Good Hope got a split by taking the nightcap in Cordova 8-6.
Cordova has clinched the top spot in the area with the runner-up position to be determined next week between Good Hope and Dora. The opener is Tuesday at Dora at 4:30 then a doubleheader April 12 at Good Hope at 4:30.
2A, Area 13:
Falkville 6-0, Winston County 4-2, Cold Springs 2-4, St. Bernard 0-6.
FLASH NOTES: Cold Springs will need Falkville to help them out next week, with the Eagles looking to sweep St. Bernard on the diamond.
Falkville plays at Winston County Monday with the series moving to Falkville for two on Tuesday. Cold Springs is at St. Bernard Monday at 4:00 and finish the series with two games Tuesday at Donald Freeman Field beginning at 4:30.
Holly Pond, Hanceville and Vinemont have been eliminated from postseason play.
Holly Pond finishes up 3A, Area 11 vs. Susan Moore on the road Monday at home for two on Tuesday at 4:30.
Hanceville pays a visit to Vinemont for 3A, Area 12 play on Monday at 4:30, with the series moving to Hanceville for two on Tuesday at 4:30.
The regular season ends the weekend of April 14 with the first round of the AHSAA playoffs in all classes to begin on the weekend of April 20.
