FLASH NOTES: Cullman and Vinemont joined Good Hope in winning on homecoming to close out September.
The Cullman win was huge in defeating a Fayette County team that came to Woodard Stadium undefeated, ranked fifth in the 4A state poll. Cullman led for much of the game with Fayette County scoring late to tie it at 34-34.
The Bearcats won it on a field goal in the final seconds. Cullman has defeated three schools since September 8 (Albertville, Fort Payne, Fayette County) that came to the campus undefeated. They left the stadium hanging down their heads with their first loss.
Vinemont got a major upset, sending 9th ranked Addison (1A poll) to its second consecutive loss after the Bulldogs had won 14 straight regular season games.
This allowed the Eagles to break a 9-game losing streak to the Bulldogs. The last four games between the two have been decided in the final quarter by the margin of a touchdown.
Fairview went to Priceville for the first time and came home giving coach George Redding his 65th victory at his alma mater. Redding is tied with Hall of Fame coach Dafford Smith for most wins in Fairview history.
Holly Pond stampeded Asbury for the second straight year. The Broncos have started back to back seasons for coach Mike Bates with a 4-1 record. Holly Pond is 4-0 at home this season, 7-2 on the home turf since 2016 and has won 10 of their last 15 regular season contests.
Hanceville's first ever trip to Clements turned into a tough venture as they suffered their fifth straight defeat.
West Point had its coaching staff scattered at three locations, watching Fairview, Good Hope and Mortimer Jordan play. The Warriors took the final Friday of September off.
