FLASH NOTES: Two days before they open the 2017 season with new coach Lance Lay, the Lady Eagles presented the home crowd an intersquad match that was tight at the beginning, then controlled by the varsity in the second and third sets.
Danielle Partain's junior varsity fought the varsity point for point in the opening set. The largest lead was four points on three occasions by the varsity at 20-16, 21-17 and 23-19.
Vinemont won it on a service point by Alexis Bonner and a volley from Maddie Oliver. Rachel Hall had four kills in game one along with three service points and an ace. Cassidy Wright had three consecutive points on serve with two being scored by Maddie Woods.
In game two, an ace from Madison Harbison pushed the varsity to a 6-4 lead. The JV tied the score at 6-6, then after a service break, Oliver converted seven consecutive serves, getting help on kills by Mikayla Golden and Wright.
Wright tallied three in a row then the JV broke service and Vinemont got it back with Gracie Kennedy closing out the second set by scoring three straight on serve.
Oliver broke a 1-1 tie in the third set by getting 10 consecutive points and the Lady Eagles coasted from there.
Kennedy was in true form, scoring the final 10 points on serve, having assistance on kills by Hall and Golden.
The match ended at 7:13 p.m.
It was a training session for new officials from the Cullman Area Volleyball Association as everyone awaits the start of the 2017 schedule on Thursday.
Vinemont will head to Good Hope for a tri-match with the Lady Raiders and Cold Springs at 4:00 p.m.
